THALIAN ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES NEW 6 MONTH CHILDREN’S THEATER ACADEMY SEMESTER

WILMINGTON, NC – Thalian Association, North Carolina’s oldest community theater group, announces the new 6 month semester of theater arts classes for budding young actors age 4 to 18. The Thalian Association Children’s Theater will offer classes for students ages 7 – 18, in addition to a special Tots class for children ages 4 – 6.

“We are very excited about our expanded 6 month semester,” said Thalian Association Executive Director Susan Habas. “Our arts education program has grown dramatically since 2012 and this year we have combined the Fall and Spring semesters so our students will have increased class time and a better learning experience.”

Classes will be held in two locations – at the HBHUSO/Community Arts Center at 120 S. 2nd Street, and at the NE Branch of the New Hanover Library, Executive Development Center at 1241 Military Cutoff Road. Early registration will be at the Community Arts Center on Saturday, August 16th from 10 am to 12 pm. The 6 month semester will begin September 2, 2014 and continue through March 5, 2015. All students will be invited to perform in the Children’s Theater Academy Showcase on Sunday March 8, 2015 on the 2nd Street Stage in the Community Arts Center.

TACT Academy provides an affordable opportunity for all children to develop and express their passion for live theater. The Children’s Theater classes and productions are aligned with the North Carolina Essential Standards and National Standards of Arts Education. Scholarships are available on a first-come basis and we host Theater 4 Change, an ongoing community outreach program for the students at Community Boys & girls club and D. C. Virgo Preparatory School.

The new curriculum includes Vocal Ensemble, Musical Comedy and Characters, Acting for TV & Film, Theatrical Make-Up and Star Power. For younger students TACT Tots classes will offer a wonderful introduction to music and expression. Full details about classes, tuition and the Theater 4 Change program are available at www.thalian.org.

Established in 1788, Thalian Association is a non-profit, membership organization dedicated to enhancing the Cape Fear region through live community theater and arts education.
