TACT is looking for individuals who can draw on their professional expertise, their belief in the importance of the arts, and their desire to give back to their community, to serve on our Board of Directors. We are seeking a diverse group who will join a team dedicated to governing Thalian Association Community Theatre, and by extension the Hannah Block Historic USO/ Community Arts Center, through active participation in monthly meetings, committee responsibilities, fundraising activities, and promoting and attending Main Stage and Youth Theatre productions. Although we encourage all who appreciate everything that a strong arts community contributes to our area to apply, we are particularly looking for those who might bring the following expertise to the board: strategic planning, legal, fundraising, board leadership, and/ or ethnic diversity. If interested in applying, please complete the Thalian Association Board Member Application by clicking on this link. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT ARE THE EXPECTATIONS OF A THALIAN ASSOCIATION BOARD MEMBER?

  • Attend and actively participate in monthly board meetings (3rd) third Wednesday of each month.
  • Maintain annual membership $150/yr due in July at the start of the fiscal year.
  • Purchase an annual season ticket package – A minimum outlay of $175.
  • Attend Main Stage and Youth Theatre productions throughout the season as available.
  • Participate in one of the formed committees.
  • Attend the annual Divine Divas Presents fundraiser held in late February.

HOW FREQUENTLY DOES THE BOARD MEET AND FOR HOW LONG?   The board meets once a month on the third Wednesday of each month at 5:30 pm for 1-2 hours at the Hannah Block Community Arts Center.  Occasionally, the executive board (president, vice president, secretary, treasurer) will have a special session as needed.

WHAT ARE THE TERM LIMITS FOR BOARD MEMBERS?  Board members serve (3) three-year terms with a limit of (3) three consecutive terms, serving a limit of 9 years.  Members may choose to step off during their term if needed.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS?  Aside from the Executive Committee as stated above, there are the following for: Finance, Nominating, Sponsorship, Branding, and Fundraising.

WHAT ARE THE MONETARY CONTRIBUTION EXPECTATIONS OF BOARD MEMBERS?  Maintain annual membership in Thalian Association (currently $150). Purchase a ticket package ($175 flex pass or $440 patron) or optionally a sponsorship package.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER FUNDRAISING OBLIGATIONS?  Participate in and attend fundraising events to support staff efforts. Attend the annual Divine Divas Presents event held at the end of February.

Thalian Association Community Theatre (TACT), is the oldest community theatre in the United States and integral to our area’s cultural foundation. In addition to producing five main stage productions at Thalian Hall, and five youth theatre productions and arts camps, TACT manages the Hannah Block Historic USO/ Community Arts Center (HBHUSOCAC) for the City of Wilmington and produces events including Orange Street Arts Fest and ARTfall. TACT champions all aspects of the visual and performing arts, and theatre arts education for the Cape Fear Region. During the past season  87,632 people participated in Thalian Association productions, attended special events, or visited the Community Arts Center. 6808 youths & adults participated in youth theatre programs, 62,238 people attended an event or class at the Community Arts Center, 18,586 people saw a show or special event, and we provided over $100,000 in rental income for Historic Thalian Hall. 

Established in 1788, Thalian Association Community Theatre is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to enhancing the Cape Fear region through live community theatre and arts education. Thalian Association Community Theatre produces five major productions annually on the Main Stage at Historic Thalian Hall and manages the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center for the City of Wilmington. The youth theatre program was created in 1979 to offer training and performance opportunities for children ages seven through high school seniors.
