THE THALIAN ASSOCIATION CHILDREN'S THEATER PARTNERS WITH MAKE-A-WISH® AND MACY'S "BELIEVE" CAMPAIGN
WILMINGTON, NC – "Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist..." - Francis P. Church, Editor New York Sun.
The Thalian Association Children's Theater does believe in the generosity of the season and our community. This holiday season we are partnering with Make-A-Wish® and the Macy's "Believe" campaign during our production of Macy's Yes Virginia The Musical. For every letter to Santa Claus that we collect Macy's will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish®. Macy's Yes Virginia will be performed on the 2nd Street Stage in the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center December 4 - 7, 2014.
Santa letters are being accepted now through December 7th at the HBHUSO/Community Arts Center, 120 South 2nd Street in downtown Wilmington. Every child who submits a letter will have a chance to win two tickets to A Christmas Carol, main stage Thalian Hall December 11 - 21, 2014 or two tickets to SchoolHouse Rock Live, onstage February 20 - March 1, 2015 at the Community Arts Center. A drawing will be held at each performance of Macy's Yes Virginia and the winners posted on our Facebook page the week of December 8th.
"Thalian Association Children's Theater provides the opportunity to perform and learn through our productions, arts education classes and community service projects," said Susan Habas, the Thalian Association Executive Director. "Our goal is to develop educated, collaborative and thoughtful members of our community and supporting Make-A-Wish® is creative way for our children to be engaged and help others."
Make-A-Wish® grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Based in Phoenix, Make-A-Wish is one of the world’s leading children’s charities, serving children in every community in the United States and its territories. With the help of generous donors and more than 25,000 volunteers, Make-A-Wish grants a wish somewhere in the country every 38 minutes. It has granted more than 240,000 wishes since its inception in 1980; more than 14,000 in 2013 alone. Make-A-Wish®Eastern North Carolina eastnc.wish.org was founded in 1986 and has one purpose - to grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions between the ages of 2 1/2 and 18. The eastern North Carolina chapter covers the 49 counties from the Alamance/Orange county line to the coast and has granted more than 2,800 wishes and counting.
Macy’s Believe campaign and the charming musical was inspired by the true story of 8-year-old Virginia O’Hanlon, who wrote a letter to the New York Sun newspaper in 1897 asking if there really was a Santa Claus. The paper’s response, penned by its editor Francis P. Church, became the most reprinted editorial ever to run in any newspaper in the English language.
The Macy's Yes Virginia The Musical production schedule is December 4 - 7, Thursday – Saturday at 7:00 pm with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 3:00 pm. Ticket information is available at 910-341-7860.
