2014 Good People

2011 Tony and Drama Desk Nominee for Best Play

GOOD PEOPLE by David Lindsay-Abaire

August 7 - 30, 2014

In the Southie neighborhood of Boston, a night on the town might be a few rounds of bingo; this week's paycheck might be last month’s rent. When Margie has trouble arranging care for her special needs adult daughter, she's fired from her dead-end job for being late. Facing eviction, a return to the unemployment line and scrambling to catch a break, Margie is reminded of an old high school fling. He made it out of Southie, became a doctor, and is living fancy. Could he give her a job in his office? Could he be her ticket to a new start? Is he secure enough to face his humble beginnings? Margie is prepared to risk what little she has left to find out. This timely, powerful, funny and heartbreaking play explores the struggles and shifting loyalties between friends that illuminate our American lives.

"The scrappy characters have tremendous appeal, and the moral dilemma they grapple with—is it strength of character or just a few lucky breaks that determines a person's fate?—holds special significance in today's harsh economic climate." —Variety.

"That rare play that is both timeless and completely keyed into a specific moment in American life...a penetrating drama about deeply relatable issues, albeit this time with more warming doses of humor." —Hollywood Reporter.
