THE THALIAN ASSOCIATION SHARES THE MAGIC OF PETER PAN WITH THE CHILDREN OF DREAMS
WILMINGTON, NC – “All the world is made of faith, trust, and pixie dust” – Sir J. M. Barrie, Peter Pan.
The Thalian Association, North Carolina’s oldest community theater, will follow the magical tradition of Sir J. M. Barrie and his beloved Peter Pan by filling the first two rows of historic Thalian Hall with forty children and staff members from Dreams of Wilmington for the opening night performance of this iconic show. Peter Pan will be performed on the Thalian Hall Main Stage September 25 – October 5, 2014.
Sir J.M. Barrie wanted to share the magic of Peter Pan with children and in 1929 gave the Peter Pan copyright to the Great Ormand Street Hospital for Children. Today the Thalian Association is grateful for the opportunity to share the magic with today's Dreamers.
“The Thalian Association was founded in 1788 to produce Community Theater as financial support for the first free school in North Carolina, a school made possible by a legacy from James Innes, a wealthy planter from the Cape Fear region,” said Susan Habas, the Thalian Association Executive Director. “We honor that tradition today by making live theater accessible to all members of our community and providing free theater arts education for our youngest citizens. Our community outreach programs are made possible by the support of donors, foundation grants, our members & sponsors and everyone who buys a ticket for our productions. When you enjoy a wonderful evening at the theater you are helping others to enjoy the same.”
Dreams of Wilmington is a nationally award winning non-profit organization dedicated to providing at risk youth with high quality free-of-charge programs in the literary, visual, multi-media and performance arts. Each year Dreams provides arts education classes for more than 800 young people and in 2007 was recognized by the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities with the Coming Up Taller Award, the nation’s highest honor for after school programs.
The Peter Pan production schedule is September 25 – October 5, Thursday – Saturday at 7:30 pm with Sunday matinees at 3:00 pm. Ticket information is available at 910-632-2285 or www.thalian.org.
